Former acting mayor of the then Gazipur municipality Md Abdul Karim and more than 100 of his followers joined Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Saturday.
Karim who contested the previous Gazipur City Corporation election for the post of a ward councilor with Awami League ticket joined BNP formally in a ceremony at the BNP chairperson’s office at Gulshan in Dhaka.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir welcomed Karim and his activists by offering flower bucket.
Welcoming Karim and his activists to BNP, Fakhrul said that joining of a popular leader like Karim was a remarkable incident for BNP and hoped that the party would be more strengthened through his joining.
Karim said that he joined BNP to fight for reestablishing democracy in the country.
Gazipur city BNP president Hasan Uddin Sarker presided over the programme.
